Staying in the under-committed lane
Lately, I’ve been practising something that doesn’t always come easily…
staying in the under-committed lane.
It’s so easy to feel like the kids should be signed up for more.
Another activity. Another group. Another thing they could go all in on.
A space where they could excel… be the best… or at least really good.
And sometimes, I feel that pull.
That quiet whisper — am I giving them enough?
Are they missing out?
But after time away… travelling…
And then coming back home…
I’ve found myself craving something different.
Space.
Spontaneity.
Unstructured time together.
Slow mornings.
Last-minute beach swims.
Afternoons that unfold without a plan.
And I’ve realised — I really love this way of living.
We follow their lead.
If something truly lights them up, we support it.
We lean in.
But it has to come from them… not from the pressure of what we think they “should” be doing.
Because the world can feel so full.
So scheduled.
So focused on doing more, achieving more, becoming more.
But my heart…
And the way we live here…
Surrounded by nature, by beauty, by space…
It keeps reminding me:
Maybe what matters most
is learning how to be in it.
To enjoy what’s already here.
To feel life… rather than fill it.
So this is my practice right now —
staying in the under-committed lane.
Trusting that it’s enough.
Trusting that they are enough.
Trusting that this slower, more spacious way…
Isn’t missing out —
It’s actually deeply, richly full.
And honestly…
It’s feeling really good.
